Unlocking a Brighter Future: Small Steps for a Sustainable 2025
When setting your annual goals, including the environment can feel daunting. I could see why you may want to avoid it altogether. Maybe leave the environmental experts to fix it?
But what if I told you it doesn’t have to be that complicated?
2025 will be an interesting year for the environment. And while we all hope for the best, it is becoming clear that we need to take some actions as individuals.
What if, this year, we all work together to make small lifestyle shifts and mindset changes that collectively will contribute to a healthier planet?
Examples of small sustainability goals could be:
Only renting or thrifting your wardrobe in 2025.
Create a plastic-free shower routine. (Hello, Dip Shampoo bar!)
Use public transportation more often this year.
If you don’t know where to start. We are here to help. Let’s all commit to creating less plastic waste this year.
Here are some simple tips on reducing waste to take into the new year.
Eliminate single-use plastic when possible. Opt to have your coffee at the shop rather than go. Ask for your drink without a straw. Remember to take those reusable bags to the store or say no to a bag altogether! These simple actions can help you reduce your plastic waste output.
Refill the plastic you have in your home. When you run out of your Native Coconut body wash, save the bottle! Put it in your reusable tote, and add a trip to Lite Foot Company to your list of weekend errands.
Buy in bulk! Buying larger quantities of your favorite products saves trips to the store and reduces waste. An easy swap is to buy one giant bag of your favorite BBQ potato chips rather than individual bags and use reusable bags for a little to-go snack or lunch.
Instead of buying new clothes on Amazon, which are usually wrapped in plastic and shipped in various plastic bags (read: waste). Consider swapping clothes with a friend or attending a clothing Swap at LiteFoot, (see our upcoming events below.)
Take care of your belongings. If something breaks but is still usable, repair it! When you increase the lifespan of the items you own you decrease what you send to the landfill.
Build a community of like-minded individuals. Have you ever heard the statement “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with?” I believe this is true! Bring your friends and family along with you on this subtle sustainability journey. Meet new people in the community striving for the same change you are. By forming these relationships you can learn new skills or access resources that can help you in your sustainability journey. You will feel less alone.
Saving the world is a tall task - but we can do it together.
Small steps. Big impact. Commit to tiny changes on repeat this year.
